I didn’t post this Declaration because I think it’s gospel or brought down from Mount Sinai by Moses. I posted it because I am weary of the viewpoint that any departure from Fauci-like orthodoxy is reprehensible and dangerous. I am humble enough to know what I don’t know and I am not an epidemiologist. The writers are. Does that make them right? Of course not. Which is why I also posted the rebuttal snoop linked on Facebook in my first comment.
I may be conservative but I also try to be reasonable. I do not single source my news and op/eds. I refuse to watch Fox News but will occasionally watch CNN. My Twitter feed has more liberal news outlets than conservative ones.
Mookie I did not wound your ego. I did not attack you personally.
But Austrians are cranks, it is like if you had a Christian Scientist tell a Lutheran they will not treat their son with a curable disease via the hospital for their religion is against this, them believing that if you pray real hard that Jesus will cure their son.
Now Austrians Econs are not necessary those 3 scientists and the dozen of other people for I seen the full list of people with the press release. I found their arguements wanting in the interviews I read.
Lastly for the real argument you seem to want to talk about with the lockdown, we been over this before and we have a whole lot more evidence in an empirical fashion. Both our economy would be better and also less cases if McConnell would do stimulus relief and we adopted some common sense things to slow the spread of the virus with things like masks, and we do contact tracing.
We have millions of unemployed people, we can literally hire some of them to do in person interviews (with precautions) and phone interviews. We have the technology and compared to other countries we have the evidence that it is highly effective. We know it works, the question is will we enact it or we are allergic to new ideas for we see them as foreign, we see them as antithetical to the American way of life and we are going to ride this tiger in a compulsive Thanatos / Death drive never adapting for we refuse to adapt?
(PS Freud was an Austrian who was influenced by some of their arguements, accepting some and rejecting other.. Furthermore his ideas change throughout his life for personal tragedy and the Great War does that to people. Some people adapt, adapting sometimes means violently rejecting old discredited ideas.)
