The Internal Revenue Code of 1986 radically reduced rates. The top rate went down to 28% (there was officially a 33% rate but not really, it wasn't until Bush broke his "read my lips, no new taxes" that that rate actually kicked in). It had been at 50% before that (and go back to before Kennedy and it was 70%; go back to the 1940s and it was 90%!!!).
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
