Because of the ninja threat, watches are doubled and lanterns kept burning fore and aft to maintain enough illumination to give the pirates a chance of spotting their foes should they venture out to attempt anything sneaky. The loot is amassed at the bottom of the main mast, and special watch is kept over it, every man and woman in sight determined not to let a single piece of eight vanish so long as they draw breath.

The night draws on and on, the crewmembers fidgeting slightly in the growing darkness. It's fairly silent topside, though you hear some laughter from below. Apparently, some of the off duty crewmen have decided to stay up drinking and playing in the galley, likely uncomfortable with sleeping even in the heavily watched common quarters. Everybody knows the night is the ninjas' time.

However, dawn breaks over the horizon at last, and the weary night watch confidently descends to quarters for some much needed rest, while the early watch replaces them. All seems well, and it looks like the ninjas haven't attempted anything tonight.

At least, so it seems until, near noon, Black Katie fails to wake up. Like the pirate formerly known as Curious George and Yunalesca of Zaon, they'd been allowed a longer night as reward for their hard work in retrieving Three-penny Roberts' treasure, but unlike the other two, she was still sleeping.

Finally, when even the attention of the First Mate fail to wake her, she is dragged out of her hammock, and a faint red criss-crossing pattern can be seen on her back, as of slightly irritated skin where she had lain on the hammock. You are puzzled at first by what this means, until someone finally speaks: "Shiver me timbers! They be poisonin' the hammocks?"

Darth_Katie has been murdered. She was a pirate.
