I don't remember that, I thought Yuna was the one who caused the "George Incident"
Here.
Well, yes, that's true enough but keep in mind our night 1 casualties the last few games have all been high-profile. Anyway, I'm not ruling out random, merely pointing out that I've never killed that way on night 1 or observed anyone else really do it, so its not really common, a lot of times I'll make a short list of good candidates and let the killer pick because it seems unfair and impolite to pick for them and I don't do night 1 kills, that's still not very random. Picking from a list of unlikely to be docced characters isn't random either. I know I don't do pure random period, in lynch or kill, because I feel it waters down my victory, I tend to assume everyone else feels likewise particularly in DF group think mode, so short of someone telling me that they've actually rolled the proverbial dice to pick a kill against the whole list of 'not them', I find random unlikely. Regardless, if it is random we can't track it at all. As an example, if we knew they were aiming for probable docs of the character claim table, fist could conceivably have been on that list and any we could look at as more likely character claims for that role might then be suspect. For instance if Dr. Strange - who nobody listed - had been in on there, Sorcerer Supreme and famous surgeon, one might wonder why nobody took a shot at him as a doc option, and maybe it would be because they knew it was fake.
As I said, I can't argue against the random option but we can't do any snooping off it if true and would have to call the kill a dead end, and I haven't seen a lot of random kills to indicate this is probable but it's note really something we can discuss usefully anyway. Because none of the lines of generated strike me as particularly tactically sound random is sort of appealing, but at the same time, even though its built on a lot of things I'd regard as mistakes, the "Fist told him, he told his buddies, they killed fist" scenario works, that's why I'd like to hear from others in that regard, would they tell there mason ally role info on night 1? Would they kill their mason ally on night 1 if they knew? Because I wouldn't do either and yet thus far it seems everyone else thinks that's entirely likely, in which case we have fairly logical non-random route for fist to have been killed.

Oh, I didn't mean completely random, but the exact reasoning behind the choice may be beyond me, so I was just pointing out that FistofPainX was a viable choice for a night kill. And you're right that it would have been a deviation from the norm, but that might just mean we have a new set of Darkfriends. This kind of choice is something I like, for example, and as I recall it was part of my recommendation to Gher when we were Space Cultists. Or it could be someone who has been a Darkfriend frequently and worries about developing a recognisable pattern.

Besides, the Darkfriends might have worried about exposing their corrupt mason if they struck down for the reasoning you propose. Losing one mafia for one townie is not a good exchange. But I imagine they didn't consider this, after all if they did and ? is a Darkfriend, he wouldn't have revealed what he has.
One other possibility is that Fistofpainx used his other ability on the Darkfriend assassin, and the mafia weren't planning on killing fistofpainx at all, he was just randomly selected as an alternative. Or we have a bus driver or the like. I really wish we knew who fist had targeted yesterday.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
