I am determined to prove, before it's revealed, that Lanfear killed Asmodean. Tom Send a noteboard - 26/05/2010 05:36:59 AM
Presumably, Lanfear had three wishes available when visiting the Aelfinn (or is it the Eelfinn?). You know, the foxes. No one had been there for the longest time. "The longest time" said the fox, echoing Mat's thoughts (I'm referring to the only time we've ever seen the foxes and their musk-smelling lair, in The Shadow Rising).

It's not even clear that, in the Age of Legends, the protocols were understood by everyone, or that Mierin would have gone through the portal (or that people were permitted to use them generally). I'm of the opinion that, given the danger, only specific scholars focused on the Finns would have gone through the portals, and Mierin was studying other things (like Shaitan's prison).

Given this knowledge (and the way Mat stumbled into his wishes), I think it's easy to reconstruct what happened:

Lanfear has just fallen through the ter'angreal. She's just confronted Rand and realized that he is a lot more powerful than she thought he would be. He is a lot more powerful than he SHOULD be, given how she instructed Asmodean. She thinks he betrayed her.

She ends up in the room with the foxes, just like Mat did in The Shadow Rising. Like Mat, she doesn't understand what they're saying about honoring the ancient agreement and what they mean when they ask what she needs.

"I could just kill Asmodean!" she shrieks.

"Done".

She appears in Caemlyn, balefires Asmodean and returns. This is probably said before Moiraine can do anything. With an evil glint in her eye she decides to do something awful to Moiraine as her second wish.

"Done".

Her third wish is probably something silly and stupid, like "I want to look like Ilyena so Lews Therin will remember me and fall in love with me."

"Done."

Ah...but she didn't discuss payment, did she?
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

IMO, the difference is that Ishy was strongly connected to the DO, when he died in TAR. *NM* - 26/05/2010 07:55:47 PM 382 Views
Re: IMO, the difference is that Ishy was strongly connected to the DO, when he died in TAR. - 26/05/2010 08:25:36 PM 787 Views
But Ishy channeled the TP; thus the DO was more aware of him in TAR. *NM* - 26/05/2010 08:33:45 PM 343 Views
I don't see how that really makes a difference - 26/05/2010 08:43:58 PM 820 Views
At least Asmo didn't channel the TP, when he died; this could be the difference to Ishy. *NM* - 26/05/2010 08:46:44 PM 354 Views

Well, the TP is not related to who killed Asmo, in my view - 26/05/2010 09:34:42 PM 810 Views
That doesn't make sense - 26/05/2010 09:40:10 PM 772 Views
That has nothing to do with the identity of the killer. - 26/05/2010 09:56:18 PM 715 Views
I still think you are making this more convluted than it needs to be - 26/05/2010 10:21:26 PM 823 Views

I'm 80% sure it's Graendal, with 20% left over for Moghedien - 26/05/2010 02:00:09 PM 821 Views

Yep. More impressive than the guy who was killed by a shepherd, right? =) - 27/05/2010 03:44:07 PM 766 Views
Maybe she did it, but you misjudge Lanfear bigtime, I think - 26/05/2010 07:12:09 PM 810 Views
