I just see all of that as potential plot lines for the planned follow-up Mat/Tuon in Seanchan novels darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 08/06/2010 02:09:26 AM

It servers no purpose to the plot unless RJ wanted her to lose the Throne of Seanchan completely. The Seanchan are far to set in their ways to accept her as Empress if she was damane.

Hell, even sul'dam refuse Healing from Nynaeve in TGS!

I dunno, I rather hope she will. I find the whole damane system utterly sickening, so it might be fitting for Tuon to channel on her own.

I think of the talk she had with Mat about how she is so completely different from the damane because she "chooses" not to channel, just like she chooses not to commit murder. In doing so she is rather conveninently ignoring the fact that due to the spark, the damane did not HAVE a choice, and ofcourse it has been said time and again that once you touch the OP even once, it is impossible for anyone to stop.

I am not the biggest Tuon fan so I would enjoy seeing her channel and then claim that she won't do so again, only to then have her nose rubbed on to the fact that its impossible to resist the OP at that point. Might make her see some of the cruelty and injustice that is going on. Maybe.

It might not happen, infact it probably wont. But I will say that if it does, I will enjoy it immensely, and also hope that it will perhaps make Tuon a bit better and more likable person once she admits she was wrong.

And ofcourse it does not necessarily have to mean that she will lose her authority. We know now that things such as inverting/reversing and other ways to hide your channeling ability would allow her to keep her talent a secret(This assumes her channeling did not happen in public ofcourse). Only the collar would detect her, but maybe there are ways around that. The AS would also likely help her since a channeler on the throne would only be beneficial to them. And ofcourse Mat's reaction upon learning that Tuon has become a fullblown channeler should be fun. :)

I don't mind Tuon... don't like her really either though. I hated her whole "I choose not too" routine, but can blow that off by blaming ignorance, since it's clear the Seanchan have no clue about the Spark v. Learning. And I was impressed with her sense of self in TGS when she resisted Dark Rand's ta'veren pull.

I wouldn't mind if she did start Channeling, as long as there was a purpose to it beyond ... oh look the Seanchan Empress can Channel, and I think I would be rather irritated if she was some uber-channeler on top of it too ... I think I'll be seriously annoyed if she turns out to be one of the 6 stronger than Nynaeve. IMO it would be better if she was another Morgase, just enough ability to be "cursed", but not enough to be worth anything either :)
