Perhaps Hawkwing had such hatred towards the false dragons because he knew they were frauds. He could have painted the dragons on his sword as a way of saying that he supported the true dragon LTT. It would explain the paradoxical situation, which I might add still holds more credence then any other theory :p

and I'm guessing we'll find out in about a month the true identity of the sword anyhoo.
