I agree that Rand is likely to die before the Strike, but I don't think Mat will be the one to bring him back. We can assume that Rand is a Hero of the Horn, and as such he will go to T'A'R when he dies. Then I think Nynaeve will rip him out of T'A'R the way Moghedien ripped out Birgitte. We know she was there when it happened, and thus she saw the weaves. Her desparation over Rand's death will probably make her remeber those weaves. It has been said on several occasions that Nynaeve won't be satisfied untill she has healed someone three days dead. This would fulfill that quite nicely.


If he gets ripped back out of T'A'R,he would presumably have both hands. That would be a HUGE spoiler that would definitely have to be left off the cover. That would explain why Rand's left hand is hidden in the final version and the three alternative versions.
