Fair point on Ishamael darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 20/05/2012 03:36:32 PM
It's clear Egwene is NOT under a Compulsion. Graendal seems to be the only one with the ability to do what the original poster is suggesting.

Graendal being the only one capable of this seems unlikely. For one, we know that Ishamael controlled Hawkwings through compulsion, and his mind was still intact enough to conquer most of the known world so the compulsion would have had to be subtle. Verin was also able to basically invent a weave like this from scratch.

Graendal was the greatest in her field in the entire world. That however does not mean that she was the only one who could do such things. It just means that the others are a bit less skilled. That however does not automatically translate to the idea that subtle compulsion is impossible to all the other forsaken. Heck, the fact that Ishy could do it already proves that she was not alone.

He seems like the only other person with the patience spend the time to effectively compel someone and not simply rely on the OP. DomA discusses the changes/errors Sanderson makes in one of his posts in this thread ... He does a very nice job of summing up how Compulsion worked prior to TGS.

As for Verin, she cobbled together a half ass weave that only works on women and in extreme circumstances. I don't think you can say much beyond her weave is a very primitive form of true compulsion and Verin herself is willing to take her time to make the weave work with at least a little effect. She spend hours with the women she compelled and all she was really able to achieve was getting them to take an oath that they may well have taken on their own in order to get away from being da'stang. Hell she may not have even needed the weave, a little logic with some of these women may have been enough to convince them to take an oath to get out of the situation.
