No. I've answered the exact question. You seem to have missed it. fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 29/05/2012 04:40:17 PM

While all true, it doesn't explain why Galad is a Damodred or what advantage his being a Damodred has in the situation.

He is a Damodred because that was how the treaty was signed. You can't simply change your name, after.
All of the above still doesn't explain why Modrellein and Tigrain would have allowed any of Tigrain's children to have thier fathers family name.

Because the father was, politically, as powerful as Tigraine, and like her, heir to a throne. Like I said, compare it to one of Faile's children being heir to Saldea, and another being heir to the Two Rivers. That is a powerful position to be in. Tigraine would have gotten (presumably) a daughter to rule Andor and a son to rule Cairhein. Since the future King and Queen would be brother and sister, wars between the nations would stop. That's the advantage Mordrellein saw in Galad being a Damodred.
It's not like anyone expected Tigrain to not rule as Queen of Andor someday. As both male and felmale children of the Royal line have duty to the country it seems unlikely that any child of this union would be put into such a politically disadvantaged position as Galad would have been in as a Damodred in a Mantear Royal house.

Why is a Damodred in a disadvantage? As heir to the throne of Cairhein, he wouldn't be a part of House Mantear!
While Laman and Tigrain still lived Galad would have no shot at inheriting any Crown as a Damodred.

Why does Tigraine enter the equation? Laman, however, was old, and likely to die before Galad, which made Galad second in line for the Cairheinin throne when he was born.
Taringale's ambitions were just that, he was no longer Heir to the throne and when the dust settled Barthanes ended up as Damodred High Seat.

This was post-Aiel war though. They had no way of anticipating Taringail's removal from the succession because of a future marriage to Morghase when they were signing the treaty for his marriage to Tigraine! At that point, the hope was that Taringail would take the throne of Cairhein when Laman died, and Galad would be his heir. Tigraine would take the throne of Andor, and her daughter with Taringail would be heir. That was the plan...
What is even more strange is that Galad also ended up ousted as High Seat of Mantear since he was a direct Hier to that title and the succession should have been clean and simple.

He was not and heir. As a Damodred, he had no claim to the High Seat of Mantear. He wasn't ever in line, and it was never a consideration after Tigraine died. What is worth noting is that he was passed over as High Seat of House Damodred. That was probably Moghase and Galldrian's doing.
Perhaps after the death of Queen and Daughter Heir Taringail decided to reclaim Galad as a Damodred for some reason.

Why would he have to reclaim him? He was already a Damodred, by Mordrellein's treaty!
No clue what that would have gained him unless that made marrying Morgase cleaner.

You seem to be confused. Galad was already born, and a Damodred from birth, when Taringail married Morghase. Taringail had no choice in Galad's name.
