Ditto. Thought he was a breath of fresh air to the series.

His portrayal of Egwene at the end of the fight against the Seanchan has rendered it impossible. How do you parody-by-exaggeration a character as self-glorifying as she is? "I was a burning warrior, a hero called by the Horn." Because with overwhelming firepower, while standing on firm ground, she did some damage to people with much less firepower on the backs of flying creatures. Given the advantages she enjoyed in that fight, her performance was no more than could be expected. And she thinks that for doing what anyone in her position would have, or at least should have, she is heroic? Much less one of the greatest heroes of all time? She honestly believes that smacking away some people who came into her home (a feral animal is usually capable of rising to such a challenge) is heroic?
Of course, that probably says something about the Aes Sedai or Egwene that such a basic level of competence is praiseworthy. Hell, Saerin displayed better leadership! All Egwene did was find the big gun. She didn't lead the novices in anything more than making them into ambulatory magazines. She dispatched the most Seanchan because she had the big gun, and was the biggest threat, which the Seanchan professional soldiers naturally gravitated to. She killed the most because she had the power to do so, and because that drew them to her. She "drove them off" when they never had any intention of staying. By any standard their raid was a massive success, and NO ONE is a hero when the time and place of their triumph is called the worst day in the history of their side!
Compare and contrast Rand in tPoD with Callandor to Egwene in tGS with the rod. Rand is held as a hubristic failure because he killed some of his cannon fodder, but he genuinely stopped the Seanchan advance (with actual ground troops capable of conquering and holding territory) and seriously hurt them, in a defeat for which Tuon reprimands Suroth, and Semirhage in attempting to defend her can only say that she won't make that mistake again. Egwene on the other hand, is just as arrogant and bloodthirsty about butchering other non-Shadow people, except she does NOT provably or demonstrably stop them, and their operation, by the terms they set when planning it, is a spectacular success (and a success because Egwene made the secret of Traveling vulnerable in the first place - had she not been stupid enough to get involved in the harbor chain operation, the Seanchan would not have caught a single damane who could channel, and even if every Seanchan made it home safe but the Bloodknives, with a hundred damane, that would have been a far less successful operation than what actually happened! ).
So, a recap - Rand is upset and portrayed as a failure despite achieving his objective, because of impossibly high expectations based on his prior success in battle. Egwene is elated and pround of herself and viewed & portrayed as spectacularly successful and heroic, when those she fought consider their achievement worth the risk of the force they sent and still manage to bring most of their force home again, and those she "saved" experience "one of the greatest disasters in the history of the Aes Sedai." How do you mock that perception? I guess Sanderson found the only way to stop me - he outdid my parody in ridiculousness.

Cannoli, I want to ask a legitimate question that can sound bitchy in just the printed text. I truly don't mean it that way, so please take it in the spirit it is intended. I am curious why you read these books. I am genuinely interested to know what you find positive about them. It shouldn't make me wonder so much about someone else, but all we hear is the negative. I mean hey, post what you feel, but whenever I read it I can't help but wonder.
You can tell me to keep my questions to myself if you want, but I don't ask it the mean way it could be read.
A renewal, if you will.
Well Brandon Sanderson has officially killed off the last volume of the Epic Saga of the Chosen One.
