It is my impression that he refused to be drawn into giving an answer that would indicate whether Graendal killed Asmodean or whether someone else did, and instead deflected the question to the magnitude of power put into a balefire weave and it's corresponding effect on the Pattern.

If he gave any indication that she did or didn't, though, please point it out, as I may have quite honestly missed it.
