What are the odds of Graendal bragging (or off-handedly commenting out loud) to someone about killing Asmo seven books later?

I can't really imagine any character doing that, let alone someone who keeps her cards as close to her chest as Graendal.

Hearing it from a third person would be lame and really diminish how perplexing this mystery is (IMHO).

I will follow your conditions and prove that Graendal CAN STILL REVEAL HERSELF TO BE THE KILLER!
There are several ways to do this.
1a: Off scene. Graendal talks to Cyndane and says I killed Asmo. Sometime later Cyndane says "Graendal said she killed Asmo" bingo.
1b: Same scenario but a bit different, Flash back to Cyndane meeting with Graendal. Graendal says "I have killed Asmo".
2: Even more likely in my opinion is that tGS and ToM have parallel timelines for a while. This is extremely likely in my opinion there are many things that need to be explained that have already happened (Galad meeting Perrin, Mat in Caemlyn). It would make perfect sense to have ToM cover some of the same time as tGS. In the some time frame (before Granny gets it) we see and hear Graendal saying "I killed asmo"
