Although we still don't know, what exactly the deal was the Myrddraal had to make with Fain (Fain calls it "the matter of agreements and accord" and the explanation makes the Myrddraal sweat), or what happened with the Fain's Myrddraal after LoC. At least this should be revealed at some point, IMO.
Nah, the point is to show even though the reverse polarity of the two "evil" powers destroys each other they can still pull eachother in and work together. Basically Rand's wound, think about what it's been doing and how it'll dawn on Rand what to do.
I think that'll be part of what happens to the DO in the end, the True Source simply blocks the DO from the world via the Pattern, the Mordeth power actually interacts and destroys the TP (The Cleansing).
The fact that BS has said that Fain is working outside the Pattern's will is just more proof he will do something the Pattern doesn't will (upsetting the Order vs Destruction balance).
Edit: Just like Mashadar has been said to be a fungus grown from the Taint (Dark One, TP), Mashadar is attracted to Mordeth, they destroy eachother yet they attract eachother. Mashadar is just a biproduct of the Taint, not the straight power.
