I thought Semi was totally set-up. She was contacted after she was broken, when she would have been most in need of re-establishing herself to herself. She was given the tool that would enable her to torment/break Rand - which she tried. And the only option Rand was given was True Power.

She was never intended to bring Rand physically to the dark one, but she did move him closer on a different level.

She was sacrificed
