Doesn't make much sense that Graendal was there - apparently on SH's orders - but still Elza is essential for SH getting things done. Graendal could have fetch the DM; and as you said, remove the Compulsion from Elza.
Agreed. Even if one of the other female Forsaken DID teach Elza those rare weaves (say in TAR, like darius suggested, where the teacher could not remove Elza's Compulsion), it just means that the teacher was briefly involved with Elza, not with what happened to Semirhage afterwards.
But I agree with you. Everything BS has said about the Semirhage incident suggests that only SH and Elza were involved there, at the house where Semirhage was beeing kept.
Apparently there is more to SH's powers that we don't know yet.
Yep. And my guess is, whatever the extent of those powers, he only has them over Shadow minions. BS said "Shaidar Haran has special power over those that swear to the Dark One", which sort of suggests that he doesn't have that power over those who haven't sworn to the DO (which I thought might be the case, even before BS's quote).
For example, I suspect that SH can't make the True Source disappear when he's around ANY channeler, just those who have sworn to the DO. Otherwise, it makes him too powerful, IMO. Imagine what he could do if he could simply materialize in Rand's room, and make the True Source disappear from Rand. Too easy.
