That is not true.. fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 03/02/2010 11:50:18 PM
You finally really want to conclude your WoT series with the last book: A Memory of Light. You still have 8 Forsaken around, with whom the Light has to deal with in some way. You already got a good idea how Rand will balefire Semirhage by using the True Power. Since Graendal is linked to Rand's plotline in Arad Doman, it makes sense to you that Rand will deal with her there as well. You invent a nice plotline where luck, Nynaeve's capability and ta'veren will lead Rand to Graendal's hideout. Then you come up with a brilliant scene, where your hero brutally manages to outsmart a smarter foe by using force (but also clever mechanics of balefire and Compulsion). This scene will give you a chance to put your hero in an ethical dilemma, but at the same time get rid of Graendal, who didn't deliver anything to the plot anymore. You are content then, because you only have 6 Forsaken to still deal with.

That makes no sense. With this being the last battle, and this section of the book focusing on the struggle for Rand's soul, you want to up the ante, not reduce the tension by killing off one more Foresaken.

If RJ was trying to make the point that "hard-Rand" couldn't succeed, then having Graendal escape him would drive the point all the harder.

Imagine Rand's surprise and chagrin when he realizes that all those lives sacrificed, all that stability in the Pattern lost, was for nothing.

In his current mental state, of course, he'd be able to face that defeat, but it must still be a defeat.

After all, the rules were already broken in that Rand's coming proved to be worse for Arad Doman than his absence. That is something RJ never did before.

Thus, it wouldn't be surprising at all if RJ broke the trend of Rand killing the Forsaken as well.
