It also seems to be a strong argument against a nefarious intent on the part of the planet (if the planet is indeed sentient). Either that, or the planet doesn't understand humanity well enough to have any effective nefarious intent. A far better way to get Kris to take the faux Harey to earth would probably involve her not desiring her own death.

I don't really speculate about what Solaris intended, but I agree with you that holding onto the past is revealed here mercilessly as something, no matter how innocent, that can hurt you now for its wastefulness.
