It's noteworthy that Percy's low opinion of Bagman will prove to be justified, by and large, unlike of course his hero-worship of Mr Crouch.

And Mr Crouch's worry and interest for Bertha's disparition becomes far more interesting now - of course he's worried, that woman can bring him down if his memory spell is ever broken.


This really is the start of Percy's path away from his family, which is one of the saddest paths in the books for me (from the Weasleys' perspective at least). Honestly, I think the outcome with Crouch, in this book, drives home the wedge between him and the rest of the Weasley's in the following installments.

What starts out as annoying attachment to authority, turns to comments on his father's lack of ambition. Fudge easily exploits this to turn Percy against his own parents after he's become so attached to Crouch and Crouch's reputation. After all, Percy's been living and breathing the Ministry propaganda throughout this whole experience.

For this Percy is one of the most hatable characters through the latter half of the series (in my mind at least). Ultimately, redeemed, but after great costs to his family.
