Snape: his comment to Hermione when he teeth are growing is one of those I find it hardest to forgive him. I don't understand why he would treat Hermione like that, though. She should appeal to him. Yes, she is Harry's friend, but she is smart and good at potions. Yes, she is muggle-born, but so was Lily.


Don't get me wrong, it was harsh, even for him, but it was just perfect with the descriptions you get of her throughout the series. I agree with Legolas that any similarity with Lily would make him harder on Hermoine, rather than easier.

He's not as unfair with her as he is with Harry on a regular basis, and I think that IS because she's smart(er). The only other statements that I remember him scolding her with are for being a know-it-all and her answers sounding word for word like the text book. Definitely not constant comments about her incompetence.
