Well, she is Mrs Weasley's daughter...
Oh, don't remind me. I know a lot of people love that "Not my daughter, bitch!" line in the climax of book seven, but I just find it corny. And somewhat unbelievable. Er, although I'm guessing you didn't mean to remind me of that. Still.

I quite like that bit, now you remind me of it.

I hadn't thought of that (I didn't remember Bill being resistant to it), but that would make a lot of sense. She fits into the Krum & Harry tendency, then, of wanting to be loved for something other than X (here being Veela powers).
I don't remember Bill being particular resistant to it, either, it's just a theory that I made up on the spot. We'll have to see if it holds up. Evidently she's still having fun with her Veela powers now, though, because I can't see why else she'd have used them so copiously on the Ravenclaw guy. Unless perhaps she just can't control it very well - or doesn't know how to approach guys without it. Not enough evidence to draw many conclusions, then, I suppose.
Well, she is a teenager, too. It is hard to realise because Harry is younger than her, and she therefore seems grown-up. But she is only, what? 17?
Of course, if I recall book six correctly, there's one point where she actually literally asks Harry aloud who she should pick as boyfriend to annoy Ron the most. But that's two years later.
Hehe. I don't remember that. I quite look forward to it now.
Yes. I see Madame Maxime as developing quite a lot in that respect. But it is never shown explicitly. You have to piece it together yourself. Rowling's books are quite "writerly" in that respect (if you'll forgive me for dragging Barthes into this). He might not have agreed, because the plot is rather straight-forward, and the writing is anything but difficult to follow. But her characters leave a lot of work to the reader, and there is room to produce quite well-rounded characters with complex development if you take the time to read it closely.
Agreed. It might be a bit silly to analyze children's books in as much detail as we're doing, but the fact that we actually still find new things which help to fleshen out characters and clarify their motivations, proves that the books have a lot more depth than most people give them credit for. There are holes in the plot and particularly in the worldbuilding, but the characters for the most part work both on the surface level and on deeper levels.
Yes. If they allow themselves to be analyzed in this way, I see no reason not to do it.
Although there is a wonderful quote that I think Roh sent me ages ago, which defines a geek as someone ``trained by much immersion in the unreal to be able to see narrative realities''.
I think that is what much of this is about (and why a lot of people who are not accustomed to approach narrative in the same way are unable to see the interest in Harry Potter).
Hmm. Yes. Although Cedric suspected Harry was lying to him as well, when Harry first mentioned dragons. And hormones can cloud your judgement quite a bit.
That's true, but Cedric now has an obvious motivation - returning the favour - whereas he had to wonder at the time why Harry was helping him out of the blue. And even by hormonal teenager standards, I find Harry goes a bit far...
Yes. Far be it from me to defend Harry's teenage monsterness. I agree.
And yes. Although the comment about Aberforth seems to be well founded. Later on. It is interesting that none of Aberforths issues with Dumbledore and Dumbledore's regrert shines through yet. He is flippant about it. I suppose that is because he is good at focusing on the matter at hand.
Yeah... it seems a bit inappropriate to mock Aberforth the way he does, considering.
True. But it does show how he does not allow his own issues to come in the way of the task at hand: to convince Hagrid that all families have dark sides. The alternative way of doing that would be to present himself as the bad side, but that would defeat the object, I think.
