In recent years of course they're just breeding them for size, particularly the ones on those pictures. And occasionally there'll be some freak of nature that's even bigger than the ordinary ones.

But it's always been a big breed, I imagine because food was relatively plentiful around here, while the dense population of humans kept the amount of predators down... we haven't had wolves in Belgium for centuries, I think, for instance. Or no significant amounts of them, anyway.
