Agreed. Snape is one of the most fascinating characters I have ever read Dark Knight Send a noteboard - 25/08/2010 05:57:12 PM
Snape: I felt a little sorry for him during the midnight encounter with Moody. I like his confidence that Dumbledore trusts him. I am not such a fan of how he whispers menacingly to Harry while the latter is chopping his vegetables and crushing things -- as an adult man he should be above taunting and threatening a kid. But still. I like Snape. Oddly.

Was Snape brave? Yes of course. Was he on the good side? Yes. Was he a good person? Most definitely not. His behavior toward the students, especially Neville, is horrible. He's just a mean, evil little oily snotrag :)


I think it is down to Snape being a wonderful example of the very non-Hollywood good guy. I have had too much of the horrible paragons of goodness who look good and have noble motives. Snape differs from these in that he is an interesting character. Precisely because he is not good through and through, his motivation becomes interesting.


But liking him? No. During this re-read, I have seen over and over again his despicable attitude toward weak people like Neville. I just want to punch him in the face
