For the Imperius Curse, is it usual for the given command to be silent? Moody doesn't appear to be saying anything to make the students do things, but Voldemort says it out loud to Harry at the end of the book. Could be for effect, I suppose.
Also, I think it says Moody puts Harry under the curse 4 times? But at the end it says he felt the euphoria for the third time in his life. Hm.
As for Avada Kedavra... do you think that demonstrating it by killing a spider has an effect on the soul like killing a human? If it does, I presume it wouldn't necessarily be on the same level, but it still doesn't seem like a good thing for your karma.
I was also highly affronted by the Owlery. I can't believe I didn't notice before. Droppings all over the floor? Hundreds of owls all crowded together? You'd think with all the magic available they'd be able to keep them in more sanitary conditions... But I suppose if they are feeding them toast and orange juice there is no hope. Sigh. And then of course there are "the regurgitated skeletons of mice and voles." You wouldn't see those! They would be in pellets! (Which should also be cleaned up.) Rant over until I have another comment about owls in a later chapter.
