Well, if corporations are now people, then maybe their copyright could be different? *shrug* Larry Send a noteboard - 05/01/2012 07:57:38 PM
They are still very valuable and they still sell very well. Hell I bought some of them on VHS and then turned around and bought them again on DVD. Why should anyone else ever be allowed to print and sell Disney movies without paying Disney for the right? I think as long as the original copy right holder is publishing the material they should maintain right to the material. Even if it is Disney.

In all seriousness, I think that should be something that ought to be changed as a compromise of sorts. Otherwise, works by dead 4x great-grandfathers still being part of copyright and possibly estate lawsuits (which are more frequent than some realize) would be the case. Not quite what the original copyright laws of the 19th century had in mind when they aimed to protect the living authors and not those who would be born after his grandchildren had died off. I think 70 years after author death is a good range, but I will also admit that corporations should have different protections since that is the heart and soul of their existence.

Are you arguing for illegal use of legally protected works? - 04/01/2012 09:34:18 PM 969 Views
No. I'm saying that keeping works in copyright doesn't stop them from being read, watched, etc. - 04/01/2012 10:24:50 PM 935 Views
