Because Merriam-Webster tells me the word is traced back as far as 1654.

As for the concept of calling something ungrammatical, though, yeah, it's all relative. There are idioms that are entirely ungrammatical but still are accepted, and especially if you start with carrying over grammar rules from one language to the next, you can run into trouble (like with the me/moi vs. ik/ich/yo/...) thing.
