The earliest known attribution that I'm aware of is Christian, by some way. Which makes the use of it well judged

Despite the precedent being there, it's not a verbatim quote from the Bible. Kind of like people assuming "God helps those who help themselves" is in there, too.


Indeed, of course I never said it was in the bible.

This is somewhat relevant to the debate, too. A lot of people culturally identify with Christianity, but do little to nothing that actually makes them a Christian. If they did, they might be reading the Word more to know what's actually in there. (and treat all folks as what we are, beggars leading other beggars to real substance)


Plenty of people have read it over the years and come out with very, very different ideas of what is actually in there
