And comparing them does not really hold up. Genet was a petty thief (primarily inorder to eat) and prostitute who was dealt with by a harsh even brutal justice system and facing a life sentence. Polanski is a paedophile who was getting off extremely lightly and has not paid for his crimes.

Supporting Genet could be seen as supporting basic human rights or opposing an unjust system (although there is no doubt his artistic abilities helped him attract support). I fail to see how you could make the same claims about supporting Polanski.
