I know. It really perplexes me that so many people are so down on it. Dannymac Send a noteboard - 24/04/2013 07:19:42 PM

Maybe we're just in an extremely pessimistic place, culturally, but what I have found here, on facebook, and elsewhere is a whole lot of "meh." Getting to Mars has been in our reach for decades, the problem has been getting there and getting back, and so this proposal overcomes the last remaining hurdle by simply removing it.

Then again, that reaction is part of what keeps this in my mind. What they are looking for aren't the experts, but reasonably intelligent people who can learn the needed skills, and have the people skills themselves to survive with a small group of other people in an isolated environment. I think I would qualify. I wouldn't be doing this to leave Earth... I would be doing it to FREAKING GO TO MARS!

What's the problem, technically? - 24/04/2013 07:24:22 PM 1097 Views
Basically? Mass and redundancy - 24/04/2013 10:40:30 PM 1126 Views
The mass is what I wondered about. - 24/04/2013 11:03:36 PM 1109 Views
Fuel costs are linear to mass, total costs are probably less - 25/04/2013 12:20:55 AM 1003 Views

That's not really a fair comparison. - 25/04/2013 08:18:35 PM 1089 Views

I agree with your points, but you've still only listed financial (not technical) problems. - 25/04/2013 08:22:25 PM 1108 Views
Finacial problems are technical problems - 25/04/2013 10:19:17 PM 1043 Views
