That is a very good point, too, one that had never occurred to me.

This is actually fairly coherent and similar to what I believe.

I'd like to add that, on the subject of fetuses/persons/not-persons, we kill all the time, for our own benefit, creatures of much higher mental and emotional capacities than a fetus. So, on the one hand, if you can condone killing a cow you can probably also condone killing a fetus, and on the other, it seems puzzling that pro-life and vegetarianism don't ever align.
Regardless of how one feels about each issue separately, it is another case where advocating one without the other is contradictory, or at least inconsistent. The standard response, of course, is that pro-lifers are only concerned with HUMAN life, but, ultimately, that attitude is somewhat arbitrary, even cavalier. If we accept or even demand various exceptions to a standard whenever convenient it is not much of a standard.

I don't understand many things about Conservatives but one thing baffles me more than most.

I think you're confusing "pro life" with "anti killing."

It sounds like you have a very specific view of what each position constitutes.

Just going by party platforms, candidate/officeholder statements and proposed/enacted law.

Not in detail, just in both citing "good cause," yet interpreting it VERY differently.
