The inference is that, if the masses weren't "lied to", they would understand that the Democrats are their benevolent caretakers, acting in their interests. Bullshit.

Yes, people were lied to. Sarah Palin's name comes to mind. However, the Democrats did their fair share of lying as well, especially with respect to the price tag on the bill. It is clear by this point that the bill neither (a) addresses the primary causes of the high cost of health care nor (b) has any chance of doing what it is ostensibly being passed to do. It will kill jobs at a time when unemployment is at 10%. It will increase our deficit and likely also lead to tax increases, both of which will kill more jobs. It will bloat the Federal government's size still further, which will also help to kill our economy.

People understand that. Now, it sounds like SOME Democrats are starting to realise that they have to re-examine their stance on the bill. I expect that they'll start to bail like rats from a sinking ship, letting Pelosi and Reid go down. I wouldn't be surprised to see a change in leadership in both houses of Congress.
