You are not a private citizen. You are not afforded the same rights or privileges as a private citizen. You can say that they had no right to inform her officers all you like, but that isn't the case. They had every right to do so, and did nothing wrong or unethical in doing so.


It does not matter what her status with the military is/was. The police are bound to treat her just as they would any other citizen of the United States. The only difference I can possibly think of is if she were arrested for something then they would have to contact her superiors to let them know where she was. Since that type of relationship does not exist between employer and employee in the civilian world then there is nothing analogous there. That example aside it is not the duty, the responsibility, or the job of the police to report anything in this case to her supervisors. They did it in retaliation for her not helping them track down her "wife". Roland is right, they were simply being dickish and in doing so unethical.
