She knowingly broke the law when she was married in the first placed, and hid it from her superiors. She is not a victim here.

Knowingly answering falsely anything on a DA or DD form is falsifying a government document, a federal offense, DD form 93, block 4, requires you to list spouse name, or otherwise check single, widowed, or divorced. That's record of emergency data, which as you know we have to update quite regularly. If the police were aware of her marital status, they'd know she was likely guilty of a federal crime, and would be required to report that.

I'd hardly call that a technicality either, that's the same form you list who is to receive death benefits, and we have a lot of fraud on those, people claiming to be widow or widowers of dead service-members, especially in the old days. But that's basically justification in of itself to have called the military up about it, everything else not withstanding. Sucks for her, but I really have to wonder why she'd leave her marriage license sitting on a table anyway. She got an honorable discharge, no charges were filed, not really a bad way to go.

Yes, that would be super of them to find such a ridiculous "violation" of federal law to use to report her legally. Not like they have enough local laws and state laws to enforce to keep them busy.

And for the birth certificate? I think that story is bullshit. The story doesn't say whether they later executed a search warrant and might have saw it. Personally I think it sounds fishy because 1) commonsense says no one leaves their marriage certificate lying around and 2) I highly doubt they could have read anything as small as the print on a certificate looking through a glass window. Whether they are lying is probably a moot point (unless she files a suit) as it seems she has just moved on from the incident.
