Comey seemed to have been a very good lawman who did his job diligently, but he was completely incompetent at handling the political and public relations aspects of such a high position. He managed to discredit the FBI in the eyes of people on both sides of the political spectrum, and we all know what happens next. There is no way he could have stayed. I think that Trump was giving him one last chance to clear things up with his testimony, but rather than do that, he just reinforced the opinions about his poor judgment. The FBI needs someone who has the trust of the entire nation at its helm.
