67 Senators were never going to vote guilty no matter how long this dragged out and how many witnesses were or were not called. As you said, what laws were broken? Poor judgement? Bad motives?

Now let’s consider 20 years ago. President Clinton most definitely broke the law. He committed felony perjury. This is beyond question. He was fined 25K and disbarred for 5 years by his home state of Arkansas for perjuring himself. He would have been disbarred from practicing before the Supreme Court as well, but he pulled a Nixon and voluntarily resigned from such before they took his license. My point in bringing this up? He was easily acquitted by the Democratic controlled Senate, but would never have been convicted even if the 55/45 majority was reversed. 55 is not 67. 67 Senators were never going to oust a sitting President for perjuring himself about cheating on his wife. If they did they might as well all resign.

Unlike Clinton, Trump did not commit a felony. This impeachment did not have a snowball’s chance in hell of succeeding. It was such a blatantly partisan move, an attempt to create exploitable sound bytes for the election, that one can only hope it backfires.
