The Inquisition was certainly the object of a smear campaign by the Protestants.

My personal experiences with the Church have all been positive as well. Were it not for the fact that I ended up converting to Russian Orthodoxy when I got married the first time (in Russia) I would probably still be Catholic today.

That having been said, I still think Henry II was in the right. I also really have an aversion for the people who get extreme about their faith.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
