I think movies cross a line when they are that categorical. It was heavy-handed and obvious with its message. I don't think Star Wars really HAD a big message it was trying to convey. Just because a few Imperial officers had British accents didn't mean the Empire was equated with the UK, especially not when you have a guy with a rich, black voice like that of James Earl Jones calling all the shots.
Avatar is heavy-handed, stereotyped and frankly a bit demeaning. White people have technology (evil) and non-white people are primitive "noble savages" (good). It's so obvious and sickening that I agree with the people willing to throw the whole movie under the bus. It interferes with my ability to enjoy the movie, at least.
