One major difference between people on the Left and people on the Right is that not everyone on the Left agrees on everyting, whereas (at least in America) the Right always works from the same set of talking points, and parrot each other to the point of idiocy ("deathpanels" or "where is the birth certificate" anyone??).
Just because the author of the article has mostly Leftist beliefs doesn't mean that he is going to "fall in line" with the rest of the Left wing on everything (there IS no such "line" unlike on the Right).
Myself, I'm a "crazed Left Wing-nut" (as several people have told me), but there are issues I am totally in disagreement with the rest of the Liberals I've ever met or listened to. For instance, I think that Affirmative Action (at least the way it plays out) is a horrible evil. But ask any other liberal, and you are likely to get a supporter of it (and no, I am NOT a racist; I have fought against the KKK and their ilk in this country for decades, sometimes even violently--helped beat the shit out of a klansmen one time, and PROUD of it; and no racist would ever date the number of black women that I have).
My point is, just because someone is involved with the publication of a Liberal/Progressive publication doesn't mean they don't have occasions of "non-Liberal" points of view.
I've never read this guys football blog, and don't really care to.
But I have seen that there are plenty of crazy Right Wingers out there complaining about Avatar and its "anti-American" and "anti-Corporation" viewpoints, which is just stupid of them. I'm tired of people who can't accept that we (the US) are not always perfect, and that we have at times truly done the wrong thing (internment camps for asians during WWII, the treatment of Native Americans for the past several centuries, Jim Crow laws, slavery, I could keep on going...). I'm also tired of those people that can't see that indeed many large corporations are completely exploitative and evil.
But just because a movie depicts a company as evil (haven't seen Avatar yet, is that what they do in the movie?) doesn't mean that all companies are evil.
