However, if Rand uses the TP and is tainted, it also makes sense to remove the Chodean Kal, because without that much potential OP strength it would be even harder for Rand to resist using the TP again and become completely addicted.
One could say that SH was able to predict that touching TP would finish driving Rand totally loony, and leaving CK behind for a madman would be quite destructive. And it nearly was, Rand came very close to using the CK to destroy the pattern which is what the DO wants.
That being said, there are still problems with this. For example, why did SH not just pick up the access key and bring it to Moridin. Presumably Moridin could have used the CK to do what Rand nearly did and destroy the pattern.
Unless maybe there is something unique about Rand that allows him to do things that other channelers cannot and it HAD to be him that would destroy the pattern for some reason.
