I've always thought that considering it allowed planet destroying capabilities in a channeler, it could amplify his strength many millions of times. I guess he could have removed the taint little by little every day for a few centuries... if it worked at all.
Exactly what I thought. Even IF the whole siphoning thing could be done unaided, it would take insanely long. There simply was no time. From a practical view it makes no difference if it can be done in 100 years or never, if you only have a single year left before the last battle.
CK was absolutely vital.
