Just want to throw this out there, though it seems so obvious it must have been theorized before, but...
What if the Dragon is the Great Serpent?
To me, it makes a lot of sense. All of the Shadow's bravado in the early books about blinding the Great Serpent suddenly takes on new meaning, as Rand was in effect blinded by the Shadow until this latest book. Even the blurb about letting the "Dragon ride again on the winds of time" on the back of the books seems to take on new meaning, what with the Great Serpent being referred to as the embodiment of time in tEotW.
I think, if I am correct, that looking at Rand in this way may give some insight as to his nature in a grander sense, and potentially give a clue as to how he will ultimately seal the Bore and defeat the Dark One.
Thoughts?

I want to reply and say that's not exactly how I picture it, but I don't want to be dirty. *NM*

That actually seems cosmically plausible - but I really hope this is not the case

But that has always been the case. I am astounded that it isn't recognized more often...

This. There's a reason one of his archetypes is the Fisher King. *NM*

The issue is that the Fisher King story is about the Land, not the People

None of this is contradicted by what I have posited

But the chess analogy is what I'm seeing - the Dragon is necessary in degree not in total.

The Fisher King is not a messianic myth.

I, personally, like it. It makes sense for the Dragon to be an incarnation of the Serpent.
