I disagree; though. On a macro scale, it could simply be the case that certain people will always act in certain ways, so its' not a question of their lack of freedom, but the fact that they are pre-destined to make certain decisions. In that interpretation, it could actually be said that the Pattern is made up of all the variations that mortal people would choose, with the parallel universes farther away from the main choices and outcomes being less real.
What are you talking about man? This isn't the real world, it's a story. A story whose premise is built around themes of destiny. There are no choices, this is determinism to the core. Everyone is a pawn, except for Rand, maybe Ishamael. Fate itself lies on Rand's decisions.
Rand is the Great Serpent

That actually seems cosmically plausible - but I really hope this is not the case

This. There's a reason one of his archetypes is the Fisher King. *NM*

The issue is that the Fisher King story is about the Land, not the People

But the chess analogy is what I'm seeing - the Dragon is necessary in degree not in total.

The Fisher King is not a messianic myth.

I, personally, like it. It makes sense for the Dragon to be an incarnation of the Serpent.
