But I want to say there was a discussion between Rand and someone--Lan, I think--about how his choices aren't really choices at all. The whole point being that they most certainly are choices, and that it's the content of their character which forces them to act in a certain way, not the Pattern.
Yeah, Tam told Rand that even if he can't choose what he has to do, he can choose why he does it.
Rand would never have gone over to the DO but to fight him as Dark Rand vs Light Rand made a gigantic and vital difference not only to his psyche but also to the entire world.
He was always going to fight and try to defeat the DO but now he has chosen why he will do it which leads to the how.
