Because no one with even a shred of objectiveness in them, could discount what the Inn Keepers Daughter accomplished in this book.
Or had accomplished for her. Not to mention EVERY acheivement came at the expense of, or against, other women. So how is this a female issue? Egwene took the fractured, corrupted mess that was the Aes Sedai before she arrived. She clensed the Black Ajah, and for the most part pulled all the various factions together.
She did not cleanse the Black Ajah - anyone could have done as much had Verin handed them the book. She was the one judged stupid enough to be a figurehead Amyrlin, so she was in a position to do what was needed, which is why Verin gave her the book. Anything less than what she did when given those books would be an inexcusable failure. Praising her or citing this as her achievement would be like calling someone a master craftsman because he assmebled a piece of furniture according to the instructions in the box. Here is a list of Darkfriends. Here is a method to prove an Aes Sedai (or any female channeler) is a Darkfriend. The penalty for being a Darkfriend has been death for over three thousand years. There might be some 12-year olds who would not be able to wrap up the purge given those same data and precedents, but they're all eating books on the short bus. Egwene took a group of channelers that before she arrived, was at best useless, and at worst a knife in Rand's back.
Prove that they are not this now. Even knowing all the circumstances Egwene still plans to punish Rand for the Asha'man bonding sisters, on behalf of the women who created that useless mess. You cite what a disaster the Tower was, but the progenitrices of that disaster have Egwene as their champion and ally. Not only that, she was willing to do almost anything even potentially delay for a fatal length of time that so-vital reunification, rather than indirectly cause harm to the least of these bunglers. She goes on and on at length about the temerity of Elaida to remove any sister from the shawl, when I defy anyone to point out one iota of worthiness in Shemerin. Egwene, by her own claims, and now locked in by the equivalent of a campaign promise, will do all she can to defend Shemerin's superiority over normal people who are actually intelligent and competant!Egwene now has a group that can be a powerful weapon for Rand. She now has the Aes Sedai moving forward towards Tarmon Gai'don.
She has them installing a window. There has been a lot of blather and promise about what she will do from readers on this site, with precious little evidence from Egwene herself. She has been rather short of specifics on what kind of aid she will actually give Rand, though she has certainly devoted considerable thought to how she will punish him for his followers defending themselves against sisters who were in violation of her precious Tower Law. She also plans to punish the ONLY sister from among her followers who has offered any help to Rand, even while admitting to herself that Nynaeve had every right to go with him. I don't doubt for narrative reasons that she will help him, I am just saying that if you did not know this is a book and how things must end, there is no proof in her characterization that she is aiming at that end. Finally, before you go around make knee-jerk accusations of sexism, which are founded solely on your own unexamined sexist mindset, why don't you consider whether or not she is truly a strong woman. I do not believe she is, and that is the nature of my complaint with her - that she is falling short of that standard. My arguments against her have more to do with her shortcomings in that department and weaknesses. And while I am hardly her sole outspoken critic in this community, I defy you to identify anyone who has defended Elayne as much as I have. I wrote & posted thorough defenses of other genuinely strong women as well. My favorite female character is Nynaeve, whose real personal achievements far outstrip Egwene's windfalls.
