I'm half way through tGS and something popped into my mind.....what is the point of the Aes Sedai? Are they comic relief? Are they just filler?

Have the Aes Sedai contributed anything major to the storyline? Have they discovered any knowledge about the Last Battle to help Rand? Have they helped with any of the conflicts among nations/factions to help bring order to Randland prior to the Last Battle? Have they even captured or killed a Forsaken? They just keep fighting among themselves.....what's the point!

Thoughts?


Alanna, Kiruna, and a few other Sisters negotiated peace with the Tairen and Cairhenien rebels hole up in Haddon Mirk. Darlin became King of Tear and there was peace.

The Aes Sedai with the help of a few novices slaughtered 30 tor'raken, captured at least 10 Damane, and killed or captured around 30 sul'dam.

If you want to include the Salidar Aes Sedai there are more accomplishments. One of the SAS help burn Rahvin to a crisp before Rand balefired him. The SAS found the Bowl of Winds and got the Windfinders to help fix the weather. The SAS rediscovered traveling. One of the SAS became Queen of Andor and will support Rand. One of the SAS will provide Rand with at least two heirs. The SAS rediscovered how to make cuendillar so the world has more unbreakable tea cups. One of the SAS is responsible for a growing army in the Borderlands that will plug Tawins Gap.

Mostly the White Tower is a diminished, insular, petty group of women with delusions of grandeur. I would expect that to change in the next two books.
