By dealing with Semirhage the way he did, Jordan attacked not her source of brute power, but her mystique - unarguably the most potent weapon she possessed. And in this arena, Semirhage was soundly defeated. It wasn't the mere 'lessening' of a great character... that spanking scene was actually her true defeat. The point where she (once freed) was balefired by Rand was almost incidental to her falling... at that point in time, her real power was already broken, she doubted herself (knowing her failure, as we saw when Shaidar Haran visited her), and causing her to act from weakness rather than strength.
This especially captures my thought. Semirhage wasn't just defeated, she was utterly destroyed. Struck down and humiliated in the arena she valued most, revealing the pathetic individual who had cowered behind that carefully crafted image.
Of course, that revelation would have diminished her value as an antagonist had it come before her confrontation with the heroes, but as it came afterward (Semirhage is completely irrelevant in her attack on Rand - only a sacrificial pawn for Shai'tan/Moridin's move) it only illustrated how complete the protagonists' victory was.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
