That Isam might have been raised by Farstrider and his wife in the Malkieri ways till a certain age. Then Ishy took over his education and turned him into a follower of the Shadow. Eventually the DO merged Isam and Luc (who I don't think was a DF at this time) into Slayer. It seems indicative that Slayer is called "Isam" by associates of the Shadow, namely Moridin and the Trollocs.

Hopefully Verin's notes or Noal will shed more light on Slayer in the next books.
