Nynaeve's boat in aCoS proves nothing. It moved back a hundred paces because the oarsmen were balefired.
Ah yes, you're right. That wasn't something I had thought about until I started replying to randfandom's post - I should have thought about it more before replying.
' />If the boat had a thread, one part of it being balefired would have meant the whole boat would be balefired. That did not happen.
Also a good point. This reminds of something I had though about at one time or another, with respect to objects having threads (which I'd forgotten about until just now). If objects have threads, then each component of the boat (hull plank, sail, rudder, etc.) should have had a thread before the boat was constructed. Do they all combine into one thread, when the various components are combined to construct the boat? Or do they remain individual threads?
Much easier to associate threads with living bodies (I'd say souls, but RJ said that soulless, living bodies still have threads).
Except ... as the DO causes the Pattern to unravel, we see how it affects buildings/hallways/etc., and not just people. So, those buildings/hallways/etc. are a part of the Pattern, it would seem, and therefore the theory that they also have threads becomes a little more substantial, I think.
I'm sure that the coat scene in tGS was a mistake, and BS was mistaken when he said objects had threads.
Could be, but I'm defintitely not "sure".
