We find out more about what Dumbledore told the students at the end of the previous year, but, frustratingly, nothing about what he said about Moody/Crouch. Still, it seems like searching more behind this is going to be fruitless, so I'll just drop the matter. :P

Podmore gets caught while trying to retrieve the prophecy for Voldemort under the Imperius, which as Rookwood will later explain is not possible anyhow. Still, delaying Voldemort's plans. Oh, and he gets caught by the very same security wizard who checked Harry's wand during his Ministry visit. What I'm wondering, though, is whether Voldemort found out the Order was guarding the Department of Mystification when having Podmore Imperius-ed. One would assume so. We'll probably get that confirmed later on.

Some setting up of later events in secondary plots - Ron's Quidditch career, Harry and Cho - and of course the confirmation that Thestrals can fly (it's the only point I see to Harry's sighting of one).


Ah, yes. I thought that was established with the wings being described earlier, but penguins have wings, too. Good call.

Harry and Cho. I am not a great fan of that bit. I suppose it is wise and sensible (what you want is not always what you want once you've got it bladibla), but it does not stir me at all. It does set Hermione up for her wonderful insights, though, which I like. I am looking forward to that.

Ron's Quidditch career is painful. I have mixed it all together into one scene in my head (both the stuff from this book and the stuff from the next), so I was half expecting Harry to pull the lucky-charm-potion from under his hat. Half.
