She is not a Death Eater, or connected with them. She is loyal to Fudge.

She does tend to pal around with the Death Eaters though, despite her loyalty to Fudge. Likely she doesn't know they're confirmed Death Eaters, but her attitudes about pure-bloods and half-breeds fits well with their philisophy.


I think it is founded in her belief in the Ministry. If the Ministry has decided they are innocent, they are innocent. And as innocent (and therefore legitimate allies), they have the right ideas. Yes.

Regarding the giants aiding the Death Eaters. I have the same issue with this as I have with the Japanese and other non-Aryan nations joining with the Nazis in the second world war. It makes no sense, as the people they are joining with consider them of less worth. Of course, the fact that it reminds me of my issues with a real-world example just goes to show the realism of it. And yes, I am aware that it is based in other considerations. The central incongruence just struck me as parallel.

Yes, it was odd that they would help them too, given the stance the Death Eaters take on purity and wizard superiority. I remember reading that the giants ultimately go with them because they'll be given more freedoms with the muggles, almost like a pyramid with wizards (pure-bloods) on top, magical creatures, then muggles at the bottom. Better to be over the muggles than on equale footing or beneath them and in hiding.

Also, this is the biggest scene that hints at the deeper connection between Harry and Voldemort. His snap at Dumbledore, and the rage behind it, doesn't all seem to come from him. A hint that the imagery and emotions can go both ways.

Isn't that in the next chapter?

Definitely true. I jumped the gun here. That scene is just linked to the attack in my mind and I blended them together.


It is in my mind, too. I was actually a little surprised that the attack was a part of the chapter it was in, not the beginning of the next one.
